Southwark-Sur-Terre

Year 3 Semester 1

The study of the modernist film, Les Miserable (2019), became a forensic lens which focused my gaze upon post-war modernist architecture in London and comparing its notions to the neglected town of Clichy-Sous-Bois.  Choreographic drawings based on the film evolved into the interrogation of social housing estates in London and the relationships the residents of the estates have with their exterior. The challenge addressed is the removal of restrictions imposed on the site, in order for the residents to enjoy their exterior without limitations. The intervention makes use of the space above the ground of Nelson Square Gardens, encouraging the people to enjoy their domestic activities in the open air.
